At least 351 people have been killed so far after Tropical Cyclone Nargis ripped through parts of Myanmar (Burma) yesterday. Irrawaddy, Rangoon, Bago, Karen and Mon regions were declared disaster areas. With the internet and phone connections supposedly down all over the affected areas, I’m sure the real extent of the damage, and not to mention the true death toll, is still very hard to assess.
A BBC report quotes an anonymous resident complaining about the lack of help from security forces, saying, “Where are all those uniformed people who are always ready to beat civilians? They should come out in full force and help clean up the areas and restore electricity.” 1 COMMENTS

Gah, the death toll now stands at 10,000 and still rising. Myanmar is now open to foreign aid apparently. Hopefully there will be an avenue for Malaysians to send in donations or help…
