A 14-year old girl in Japan took her own life on Thursday by mixing up household chemicals to make a form of ’suicide gas’. The fumes from the gas then leaked out into the neighbourhood, leaving dozens of people feeling ill and requiring medical attention.

Police said that the ’suicide gas’ was made by mixing detergent and liquid cleanser, producing a colourless but foul smelling and highly toxic gas called hydrogen sulphide. Apparently, similar suicides have been occuring in Japan in recent months after instructions surfaced on websites which showed how to create the gas using regular bathroom cleansers. Japan has one of the world’s highest suicide rates. Source: BBC, Alertnet
