Hopes for a reduction in electricity tariffs anytime soon were dashed yesterday when it was announced that the tariffs will not be cut despite the huge drop in crude oil prices. TheStar reports that:
Energy, Water and Communications Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor said despite the fall, it did not directly affect the cost of electricity generation. In June 2008, Malaysians were hit with higher fuel prices (which has since came down) and higher electricity tariffs when global crude oil prices climbed to record highs.
